Well, this is the reason why I'm still misunderstood by a lot of people. You see, I may be a feminist - but still want to get married. But the thing is, most people in my country (Indonesia) seem to treat marriage here mostly as a mere status (like, you'll be respected more if you're a "Mrs.A" or "The First Lady". It's like, if you're still an over 25-year-old single girl --- people will usually start thinking that there must be something seriously wrong with you (like, you're considered 'out of the market' or 'too picky' or 'traumatized by an unbearable past with men'.) No, it's nothing like that. And just because they're still single, that doesn't mean that they're unhappy with their status or not looking. it's just, I hate it when people start picking on girls like that --- and their non-stop questions don't really help. I had a friend for a very long time that slowly started becoming more and more into their boyfriend and more and more not into hanging out with their friends they'd had since junior high. Then we became roommates. Then she kicked me out 6 months into our lease because she's so high strung she couldn't handle living with someone. Then she started doing coke with her boyfriend. Haven't talked to her in over a year. So I guess the moral is that when people get significant others sometimes this leads to the ending of a friendship if that person isn't secure enough to have more than one important relationship in their life, or something. And about the kid: He obviously has problems with himself when it comes to control because he's worried about power and "losing himself" but only someone with out a sense of self would fall so far into someone else that they're gasping for air. He doesn't seem like the kind of guy who really knows who he is yet and maybe 22 isn't the wisest of all ages but I think it depends on the person and I know that I've had a lot of experiences since I was 19 that would give me better insight on love. The really tricky thing is that your open agreement is to "step up a relationship", which inherently says, "i found someone better". Personally, my advice, which is only mine, is that you should go for this, but only because you have an 'open' agreement and you want to. It is going to hurt, potentially either way.
